Art Basel officially kicked off on a Thursday night and in the Wynwood Art District some hometown favorites were featured in the Multiversal Show; like MarcPaperscissor, Andrew Ackerman and some FAU students in the jazz group Modernity. In the surrounding areas of the gallery were massive wall murals, food trucks and everything art in the spirit of the yearly international event.

The Sweet Chariots did a record release party right. Free cd on entrance and t-shirts for $5. On top of that, great music by only the best of Wayward Parade. Brain Chips, The Darling Sweets and Everymen (along with Paul on accordian) were only a few of the bands that accompanied The Sweet Chariots at Respectables Street.

Ft Lauderdale celebrated the Mexican culture event called Day of the Dead on Nov. 2. Hundreds of people came out for the puppet parade. The parade led everyone to a warehouse with a mariachi band and tequila. A craft fair with several vendors selling Day of the Dead merchandise was there along with different galleries that were open in the new FAT Village Art Disctrict. The Darling Sweets, Los Bastardos Magnificos and Everymen were only a few of the bands that played the event.

Stitch Rock was back again this year for another great day of hand-made goods and vintage finds on a sunny Saturday in Delray Beach. The gymnasium in Old School Square as well as a huge tent outside was filled with people buying and selling the best of locally made crafts.

Zombies came alive on Friday night at Propaganda in Lake Worth. The Darling Sweets album release party collided with the Everymen welcome home party and resulted in more energy than anyone can handle. Yellow #6 opened the show to be followed by local hot-shots Bonnie Riot, who started the set a little slow but eventually made your head spin with the catchy guitar riffs. The standing room turned into a mix between a mosh and dance hall when Everymen hit the stage... the bar... the floor... (P.S. I purchased the Everymen vinyl and it's awesome.)
The Dariling Sweets ended the night with none other than zombie piñatas, candy and tons of dancing. If you missed out on this show, and the cd given at entrance, sucks for you.

MarcPaperScissors turned the Funky Buddha Lounge into quite the jam session. Band members from The Resolvers and Stampede jumped on stage with others to just keep the music going. Guitarists Jason Shooster, Ron Eisner and Mike Mineo jammed with Chris Montague on banjo, Travis Acker and Fabian Acuña on bass and John Provenzano on sax. Sole del Real and Carlos Solano also made an appearance doing live painting.

Respectables Street on Sunday night, Sept. 4, was filled with tunes from the Spice Girls to the Spin Doctors, dances like the Macarena and all the plaid you could handle at their first Cheesy 90's Homecoming dance.

The Speakeasy can throw a show! Local band heavy hitters Zombies! Organized!!, Radioboxer and Lavola took over this past Saturday night and left one Hell of a mess for someone to pick up after. Z!O!! brought a tv with clips of Super Mario NES and the "I like turtles" boy. Radioboxer brought the mess, as usual, with their confetti, blood and day-glow paint. There was even some girl-on-girl action in the crowd. Lavola ended the show with some heavy music and tons of energy.
This is the show to compete against. All I can say is - I can't wait 'til Mauricio's birthday party!

The Monterey Club in Ft. Lauderdale was so full Adam Sheetz from The Darling Sweets commented that he has never seen it that full before. Everyone was there for The Darling Sweets, Christabel and the Jons, The Wholetones and obviously Morgan La Fue and The Shimmy Shake Review!
Great music with sexy burlesque dancers inbetween sets was the perfect chemistry to a fun night.

ArtHeart has returned in August and displayed some excellent art from all local artists. This past Saturday, August 6, The Green Room in Ft. Lauderale was filled with the "artsy-fartsy" types and gave away free champange from 9-11:00pm. Art was displayed on the walls, some artists were doing live art and of course music was essential.

Six bands in one night is exactly what the doctor ordered at Poorhouse Wednesday, July 13. The Wholetones opened and brought in quite the crowd. Di Nigunim hailed in from California to delight us with a xylophone and some horns.
The Loxahatchee Sinners Union did one of their best sets yet putting Scarecrow Jenkins front and center. Jayke Orvis and The Broken Band had the second largest crowd of the night given that half of the band is in The Goddamn Gallows who had the largest and most energic crowd for the night. A mosh pit made beer spill everywhere.
Viva Le Vox ended the show after their long tour. They presented themselves as a duo and I, personally, think it's the best band decision yet. Antoine Dukes and Tony Bones are meant to make music together and I think they did one of the best Viva Le Vox sets ever.

The Red White and Blues Festival at Boston's on the Beach in Delray was all-in-all a success. The 4-day festival featured over 30 blues and soul groups. They managed to set up three stages and had everyone playing on their own time so everyone had a chance to see everyone. Favorites on Sunday included the swing-band-esque Ever So Klever (who sold cd's for an entire $5), one-man-band Ben Prestage, and the sweet voice of Damon Fowler Group.
Ever So Klever kept the spirit alive with jumping beats. Ben Prestage brought some dirty and southern blues wile Damon Fowler Group brought the dancers out on the floor with their guitars.

Inked Magazine has set sail on a model search all over Florida, looking for girls to be in their magazine as well as the 2012 Sailor Jerry pin-up girl calendar. The West Palm event was held at Tiki Waterfront Bar Grill in Riviera Beach on Thursday, June 30. Despite the rain there was still a good turn out of people of model hopefuls. Bar guests were enjoying the band and drinks in the enclosed tiki hut. Since Sailor Jerry was sponsoring the event so guess what? There were free Sailor Jerry rum drinks and swag being passed out by the staff, and tattooed beauties walking around in their bikinis after being photographed.

Caution: Before attending a Matt and Kim show, stretch. The sold out show at Culture Room was packed from wall to wall to ceiling. The pop sounding duo kept the energy up even in between songs. Dancing and jumping were mandatory at the show. Matt himself went up to shake hands with the crowd and stated, "It's not all the time we get to play so close to our fans."

The SW 3rd Ave Music Festival combined a complicated name with a good time. About 30 bands played across Revolution Live, Green Room, Poorhouse, America's Backyard and a temporary stage set up in the street. Nonpoint was put down as the headliner but there were better bands to see. The Wholetones killed it at Poorhouse with a full dancing crowd. The Dwars had the indie scene bobbing their heads and tapping their feet at Green Room while Young Circles brought out all the old Stone Fox fans. Atom Smash fullfilled all the metal-heads in the street while Community Property covered some hiphop in a new style.
All in all I was impressed with the festival and hopefully it will become an annual event.

SunFest 2011 has come and gone. Sublime opened up to a huge crowd and Cherry Poppin Daddy's kept the crowd dancing and moving. There was an obnoxious amount of art by mostly local artists and the deep fryers were hard at work at the food concessions.
So much went on I had to cut down my photos into two gallery's.
